I Peter 4:17-19

My Bible, Dad made the cover for my birthday last year. While reading last week I came across these verses: 1 Peter 4:17-19

For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"
Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

It made me think about those who aren't saved - members of our family, the bums on the street, the proud and haughty, the drug and alcohol addicts - what will it take for them to know Jesus as their Savior? Why can't they see - why don't they see the truth? And then it hits me, why can't I see them thru Jesus' eyes? Why can't I say the words that they need to hear? Did I do everything I could to show them the love of Christ? Isn't this what I am called to do - to bring others to Christ? We are Jesus to the world - if I look down on people, treat them disrespectfully, etc I am not doing what I are called to do. "....Thy will not mine!"
Until we meet again, may the good Lord take a likin' to ya'!

You know, I am sad, because I don't think we really care enough. I think that for the most part we worship the idol of self, and never look beyond the face we see in the mirror every day.
Thank you for those words. We all need "Jesus eyes".
Beautiful bible cover.

I agree with M. It is so easy to get wrapped up in being righteous, though "scarcely" saved, that we forget to look past our own self and realize that we still are to be the hands of feet of Jesus. You know, a friend of mine was talking with me the other day and she mentioned how Churches today are teaching us to go straight to the witnessing stage in our Christian walk. You got saved? Go witness! Bring people to church! Tell your neighbors about Jesus! Do this, this, and this and they'll come! Become this, that, and then you'll win your friend! When in reality, when we draw ourselves closer and closer to the Father on a day to day basis, we are laying a foundation for all of that to come. We cant skim past closer intimacy with HIM on a daily level in effort to get right to the witness part. We have to start at the very core foundation, and build it, because how can we be His hands and feet if we don't work on the layers in between? It has nothing to do with spiritual maturity, because the new convert can allow the Lord to use him to win his friends. It has everything to do with that word, allow. And if we're not daily drawing closer to the heart of the One who draws men unto Him, then how can we see through his eyes? Something so important for the Christian who has been a Christian for a long time. Ours is a daily walk, and one that should constantly be drawing us deeper and deeper into communion with our Heavenly Father. Thank you for this post, it serves as a wonderful reminder. Just as we need to love Him more every day, as humans we need reminded just as often :)
